Strand is a civil litigator practicing in the areas of personal injury, insurance defense, construction litigation, commercial litigation, collections and subrogation. He is admitted in Minnesota and North Dakota and has tried several cases for individuals and companies in both states.

Strand is actively involved and has held leadership positions in several legal associations. He has previously served as president of the North Dakota Defense Lawyers Association. Strand currently serves as President of the Cass County Bar Association. He also served as District Representative of the YLD ABA, representing the districts of North Dakota and South Dakota. Strand is an active of the North Dakota and Minnesota State Bar Associations and the Defense Research Institute.

Strand also serves on the board of directors for Access of the Red River Valley.
